Highest paying engineer career is always a career in construction . Because construction has its own special conditions like as locality difficulties, isolation, access difficulties, the pay rates are higher to reflect the conditions. Generally the pay rates are up to 60% higher than pay rates for work in a office location in major city.

When looking at engineer career in construction, it is imperative to learn the correct terminology. The additional pay for example is called uplift, site allowance, or even danger or dirt money. Construction life is also different is so far as it is specially aimed to meet the needs of the client. If the client is say a oil production organisation in that case their requirements will be uniquely different to the average client.

Construction engineers are typically required to live adjacent to the job site and will regularly be based in camps that are built specially for the project. The camps are set up to essentially work and sleep. Facilities like as gyms are provided for the workers to give them some kind of life. There are activates that are designed to give a sensation of normality.

Conditions at work are very often difficult and dirty. The hours of work will differ from 10 - 12 hours a day and a working roster will be set to suit the market environment. Where an employer may keep the personnel on site for 4 or 5 weeks at a time and then give them a week off he will choose this option. Due to high demand of construction engineers recently the roster has come down to 15 and 6. This means the engineer will work for 15 days and next have 6 days off. Currently popular roster has been 2 and 2. This is work for 2 weeks (14 days) and then have 2 weeks off.

Where the employers has a real problem in finding local expertise he fill bring people in from outside the region. This is known as FIFO that stands for fly in fly out. The construction people will fly in to the camp, work for 2 weeks and then fly out.

Construction time is hard and very worthwhile for anybody wishing to have a career in construction engineering.
