Today we will all want and often need to connect to the Internet in our homes, which we can now do with a home wireless network, and in addition those of us with Laptops or Notebooks will also want to connect from wherever we are, even if we are just visiting friends or relatives and also when we are on holiday.
So for a mobile solution that we can connect to from anywhere in our homes it needs to be a wireless connection for true portability and ease of use. The days and slow speeds of a direct dial-up phone connection through a land line are fortunately pretty much over as now what we all need is a high speed broadband connection.
You can get broadband connections either via a DSL connection through your land line phone or via the cable line that feeds cable TV into your home. But if you want to do this without a direct wire connection to your computer you have to go for a home wireless network that uses one of these two different types of broadband connection.
These days there is plenty of bandwidth in the wireless equipment that you need for sharing out a broadband Internet connection throughout your home and you can do this without spending too much money.
It is probably true to say that today even the slowest components of the existing wireless equipment for a home wireless network is actually faster than the speeds that a cable connection or DSL modem can connect you to the Internet form your home.
Although initially it was necessary to have either a cable or DSL modem to process the Internet signal from the cable or DSL connection respectively and in addition a wireless router to connect to one of these modems and at the same time provide the wireless Internet signal for your computers to pickup, today you can use just a single piece of equipment that does both jobs of the modem and the router combined.
So what we are saying here is that it is mow much more common that when you sign up for broadband internet the company or service provider that you pay for this will now supply you with a single wireless router that has the broadband modem built into it.
In addition to these in your home wireless network you will also need a wireless adapter in your computer to receive the wireless Internet signal from your wireless router. If you have a desktop computer or even an old laptop you can buy these separately as an add-on so you can connect that machine to the Internet over broadband.
It is more likely today though that if you have a new laptop, notebook or netbook you will find that there is already a wireless adapter built-in to the computer, which you will not even be able to see. If you don't have an integrated adapter you will need to buy one and you can simply add the wireless Internet capability that you need to it by getting a USB adapter, and then you will be able to connect to your home wireless network effortlessly.
This is the most straight forward and easiest way of creating a broadband Internet connection using a home wireless network that anyone in your home that has a computer with a wireless adapter can connect to. All the equipment you need, except for the wireless adapter, will be provided by your Internet service provider and often it is free.
Therefore the major cost of this is the payment for the Internet connection service from your ISP and most often will vary by the speed and capacity of the service that you need or want. But that is a whole other story!
