Being a bartender is more then just a job, it’s a lifestyle. If taken seriously it’s a great way to network with people and develop your social interaction skills. With so many possibilities in the leisure industry it’s never been as easy as it is today to develop a career initiating from the back of the bar. It’s also a great way to work and enjoy yourself on a Friday night without spending to much money. Now to the good stuff, what makes a bartender great?
Appearance
As a barman you are the first line of interaction between the respective bar and its clients. When clientele walk into the bar their first impression of you must be he’s clean. This means maintaining your entire presentation from hair, nails, shaving to brushing your teeth. You don t have to be clean but then you’ll never really make good money from it.
Fight Back
That doesn t mean knock the man out of his seat when he hassles you for a drink. It means learn to think quickly, out the box. Learn to take the occasional chirp and more so how to throw them back at people. Your clientele will love you for it and a great way to impress women. Its about being a peoples person, will take time but the end result will be make it worth it. This doesn t mean you must be rude because you cant it just means learn to dish it out cause you will have to learn to take it. Never forget to be polite; people will love you for it.
Spin It
Looking good is easy, looking good while being stylish is priceless. As a bartender you should be able to spin bottles. It’s very easy to learn just takes time and lots of practice. Start by getting a few empty bottles from work and then just playing around with them. Then when you reach a level of comfort in terms of spinning a bottle in your hand for neat tricks fill the empty bottle with water. It’s much cheaper to break and doesn t smell as bad. Learning this technique will take time but no more then six months and trust me when I say you won’t regret it. If nothing else you should have cool party tricks to show your friends.
Work hard
It goes without saying that working hard should be mandatory with every job but more so as a bartender. When a large part of the money you take home is the tips you receive you ll find more people will tip when they see you’re trying your best. Its difficult lifestyle not one many people can cope with but if you succeed then the sky is the limit in terms of what you can achieve.
Now all that’s stopping you is getting off your lounge and earning quick money while having fun and meeting people.
