Women who are nearing the menopausal age start having trouble sleeping. Sleeping problem is one of the common menopause symptoms that you have to look out for. There are women who are really insomniac so when they start having sleep problems due to menopause, they don’t even notice it.

If you want to get the right treatment for your menopause symptoms, you have to identify the early stage of menopause. Look for the menopause symptoms. How will you know if you are already having sleep problem caused by menopause? Look for the following symptoms and signs:

• Your sleep is interrupted by night sweats. Having night sweats is another menopause symptom to look out for. Once you start having hot flashes, you will usually experience night sweats as well. Night sweats can wake you up even if you are in the middle of a sound sleep.

• Once your sleep is already interrupted, you have trouble getting back to sleep. You may not feel sleepy anymore and no matter what you do, you can’t simply go back to sleep. What if you wake up in wee hours of the evening? You will be losing many hours of sleep.

• Never was there a day that you complete the required 8 hours sleep. Your sleep is always interrupted. Sometimes, even if you don’t have any night sweat, you still wake up for no reason at all. You just wake up in the middle of the night. Some women try hard to get back to sleep but others just spend the time doing something else – for instance, just read a book or start cleaning the house.

• When you wake up in the middle of the night, depression usually occurs. You start thinking about your problems. Stress and depression kick in and you will realize that your mind is just too busy thinking about your problems and it has no time to sleep already.

• You snore when you sleep. Of course, you will not know this unless someone tells you. Your partner may tell you that you snore. This is a good evidence of sleeping problem especially if you don’t normally snore.

Sleeping problem can lead to the other menopause symptoms. If you don’t have enough sleep and rest, you become irritable and most of the time depressed. You also lose concentration. Sleep problem as a menopause symptom must be identified as early as possible so intervention can be done.
