If you have an account on a social networking website like MySpace or Facebook, you have probably gotten invitations from eager friends asking you to help them expand their empire in something called Mafia Wars. Mafia Wars is a multi-player game in which players strive to gain wealth and collect group members in order to create their own mafia empire.
There are three ways to do well on Mafia Wars: gaining a high level, maximizing passive income, and recruiting a large number friends to play. Players level up with higher Experience Points to gain access to more games features, such as changing the game setting. Settings include New York, Little Italy, Cuba, and other locations. Income can be earned from doing jobs, fighting, and robbing; but in higher levels, players strive to eliminate the need to earn money, and focus on increasing passive income. This is done through property ownership. As players accumulate more properties, they receive greater passive income. Finally, players can recruit friends or hire other members to join their mafia groups, and gain points by attacking or robbing other players.
A player's preferred way to play is often related to mobster class. There are three class options—Maniac, Mogul, and Fearless—and each class has its own advantages relative to the others. The Maniac class sees a benefit in the time necessary to replenish energy. A Maniac's energy replenishes at a ratio of one point every three minutes, as opposed to the regular one point every five minutes. Moguls have a monetary advantage: they get more money from their jobs than the other classes do, and receive their cash at a faster rate. Lastly, Fearless characters recharge their stamina at the same rate that Maniacs increase their energy, which also is faster than the regular stamina replenishment rate.
This may seem like a lot of information to take in at once, but the game offers a walk-through experience for players just starting out. Then you can join all the other players and show them your skills. Remember to make your choices carefully. As in reality, there is no reset button in Mafia Wars.
